Liveaboat in the Andaman Sea

November 29, 2009 by free1506

With its sheer beauty, perfect salubrious climate, and bio diversity, the Andaman Sea has now become one of the world’s premier cruising destinations. Sprawling over an area of about 700,000 square kilometers, the Andaman Sea is in the north eastern corner of the Indian Ocean.

Bounded by Myanmar to the north, Sumatra and the Strait of Malacca to the south, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to the west, and Thailand and Malaysia to the east, the Andaman consists of thousands of incredible islands as well as a great number of sheltered anchorages.

Cruising along the Andaman Sea is a great way to explore some of the world’s beautiful destinations. Perhaps the most perfect destination for an enjoyable sailing in the Andaman is Phuket Island and Phang Nga Bay. Acknowledged as ‘the Pearl of the Andaman,’ Phuket is an incredibly diverse destination in Thailand, which is much famed for its magnificent scenery, fantastic coves and beaches, eye-catching tropical sunsets, glorious coastline, awe inspiring tropical gardens, superb coastline, rocky as well as sandy beaches, tall cliffs, dense forests, scintillating waterfalls, warm blue sea, and ancient temples. The bay of Phang Nga boasts of a number of legendary islands, in addition to the beaches such as Krabi and Phi-Phi. Sea canoeing through the Phang-nga would be a great experience.

Located on the north-west coast of Malaysia, Langkawi is yet another great destination for cruising in the Andaman. An archipelago consisting of 99 islands, Langkawi provides a unique tropical experience, with its unspoilt white sandy beaches and crystal clear blue water. A cruise through the islands of the Langkawi would be truly rewarding, and enables you to enjoy the rustic beauty of the place. In short, Langkawi is truly a yachting haven.

A part of the Union Territory of India, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands also provide a memorable yachting experience in the Andaman Sea. Situated about 400 miles west of Phuket in the Indian Ocean and consisting of more than 500 islands, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands’ all of the beaches are unparallel. Additionally, many of the islands in the Andaman and Nicobar are hilly and covered with tropical forests. Above all, these islands are a paradise to enjoy a variety of activities including snorkeling, scuba diving, and island camping.

Top cruising destinations in the Andaman Sea also include the Mergui, otherwise known as Myeik islands. An archipelago of 800 beautiful islands, Mergui is located on the southernmost part of Myanmar. Crystal-like clear blue water, immaculate white sands, and tropical rainforest, all of this make this island group truly an astounding spot.

One of the great advantages of cruising in the Andaman is that it is safe for sailing throughout the year, since it is not affected by tropical storms. Above all, you needn’t have to about plundering while sailing in the Andaman. The tribes found in these regions are amicable.

Almost every type of boat as well as yachts is available for a memorable cruise in the Andaman Sea. Charter bareboat would be a great choice for those who don’t want to crew on board or hire skipper. In charter bareboat, a boat or yacht is hired without crew. In most cases, bareboat is chartered with full tanks of fuel and water.

One of the great ways to explore the beauty of the Andaman Sea along with your family or friends is chartering skippered yachts, which mostly cover team training, onboard catering, corporate facilities, and itineraries. For those who want to discover the beauty of the Andaman with a blend of privacy and relaxation, a great option would be to charter a crewed yacht. This in turn provides an experience of staying in a luxury floating villa, and in most cases, it comes replete with gourmet meals and drinks, personal service, and finest accommodations.

Options are also available for those looking for sophistication, such as, luxury yachts, which features facilities including in-house theaters, Jacuzzis on deck, excellent cuisine, swimming pools, and fish fighting chairs. Classic yachts, catamarans, super yachts, and sail boat, are the other popular types of yacht charter.

A plethora of charter speed boats agencies are in the scenario to expert services. You can also utilize the services of boat brokers for an enjoyable cruising in the Andaman. Nowadays, many of the service providers have their own sites on the web, with details and information on facilities and packages available. Some of them even provide facilities to book online.

From the Apartheid Oppression to the Freedom of Nature.

November 29, 2009 by free1506

Richard Satekge(33) is one of six children born to a builder and a housekeeper at the height of the apartheid oppression. He grew up in the small village of Batlokwa (Matoks) a village between Polokwane (Pietersburg) and Louis Trichardt on the Tropic of Capricorn, in the north of South Africa. Richard’s parents had high hopes that their bright son would become a school teacher. But Richard had other ideas -nature conservation was where he was heading.

This is the story of Richard Satekge is a remarkable African tale of a dream that is realized despite the challenges and obstacle faced by poverty, lack of education and oppression. It is a typical South African story of perseverance and triumph.

As Richard witnessed the changing times, he noticed that more opportunities were being opened up for bright young people. His determination instilled in him a sense of hope. During his schooling, Richard recognized that he was most excited by the subject of biology. It didn’t take him long to apply at the Pretoria Technikon (now the Tshwane University of Technology) to pursue studies in nature conservation.

Conquering the challenges: At the end of his first year of studies, Richard was faced with financial challenges and was unable to pay his tuition and so his results were withheld. Just as Richard was about to throw in the towel he saw the light at the end of the tunnel. The department of nature conservation agreed that they would settle Richard’s outstanding tuition, and further agreed to provide him with a bursary to complete his final two years. Overjoyed by the enlightening news, Richard was back on track with his nature conservation goal in sight. He decided to complete his third year and the practical in one go. He started a position with Natal Parks Board to do his practical, but after just 6 months he was told there was no longer sufficient funding for student practicals and that he would need to find an alternative facility that could enable him to complete his practical year as a student nature conservationist.

The detour that landed him his dream: Desperate to continue working in his field and not finding suitable employment, he landed up at the Transvaal Museum in Pretoria doing volunteer work for a year, spending his time analyzing and identifying samples from living mammals.

A year later he was offered a permanent post. It wasn’t Nature Conservation, but it was a paying job. One of his mentors heard that a reserve in the Kalahari Desert was looking for trainee field guides and at his instigation Richard applied and was chosen from a large group of candidates.

Destination Desert: Without a moment’s hesitation, Richard relocated from the bustling city to the serene tranquility of the Kalahari Desert in 2002 to fulfill his dream. After completing his training at the Kalahari reserve he became a guide and spent three years guiding guests from around the world and opening their eyes to the secrets to the Kalahari.

A dream is realized: In December 2004, management at the reserve approached him with an offer to complete his Nature Conservation qualification (for which he would be given a mentorship and financial assistance), after which he would be made conservator of a section reserve that consisted of 25 000 hectares. This was a section of the Kalahari that Richard had come to love and he could finally feel his dreams becoming reality.

In November 2006 Richard Satekge completed his diploma in Nature Conservation and now has a slice of the Kalahari safely in his care. Richard believes that a combination of determination, dreams and hard work makes life very worthwhile, especially when you’re living at in the Kalahari Desert.

A paradise which is the Kalahari: The reserve where Richard is based is situated in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa, covering 100 000 hectares of land on the edge of the mysterious desert wilderness that is the Kalahari. Free from malaria and other tropical diseases, the reserve houses over 70 species of mammal including lion, cheetah, desert black rhino, sable and roan antelope. More than 200 species of bird can also be found in the reserve. Although the reserve facilitates extraordinary luxury facilities, it is the whole-hearted commitment of the staff that gets tourists talking about this paradise which is the Kalahari.

An unforgettable holiday in Dubai

November 25, 2009 by free1506

Dubai is becoming one of the trendiest places to vacation in. even though most of the people mention only Dubai, the area is actually consisting of two cities, Dubai and Deira, which are divided by the Creek. People visit Dubai for different reasons that range from shopping sessions to the perfect exotic vacation.

However, no matter of your reasons of visiting and spending some time in Dubai, the emirate offers so many activities, things to do and entertainment that it is almost impossible to get bored. One thing to keep in mind before flying to Dubai is the visa requirement. Most of the countries need visas to enter Dubai. There are several ways to get a tourism entry visa that is valid for a month and can be renewed once. You can get a visa through your travel agent if your holiday is an organized one or if you are visiting Dubai on your own you can get it at the airport. Even though the official language is Arabic, English is widely used, so you do not have to worry about not being understood. The money is called Emirati Dirham (AED) and there are several exchanges offices all over the city.

Out of the wide variety of things to do available in Dubai there are several musts you have to do while on holiday here. You have to experience a camel ride and see a camel racing. If you want to go in a safari there are several tours and options available you can select a Wadi driving, a Dune driving, a Sand Skiing safari or a Deserts Feasts safari. Dubai is the place to find out about Arabian culture and bring a lot of your Arabian dreams to life. For example you can sleep in an authentic Bedouin tent or paint your own canvas in some of the galleries open for the public; you can try the traditional food and visit museums and other places with astonishing architecture. Since Dubai is a very fast developing place, the architecture is mixed and if in some parts you can see the old traditional buildings made in the Arabic style, in the resorts and even downtown you can see modern architecture and buildings made following the newest trends in architecture.

If you are visiting Dubai with your children consider one of the available theme park like Magic Planet, Wonderland or Wild Widi or going to the beach. If you want to have an adrenaline rush you can try one of the available aerial tours or the creek tours which offer an unforgettable view of Dubai. If your want to go shopping during your holiday Dubai is the place to do it because there are several major shopping centers in the area and you can find things for all types of budgets. For sport lovers the choices are the go carting, the horse riding, thunder bowling, ice skating, golf, fishing and lot and lots of walks on the beaches.

Accommodation and dining is also available according to your budget. You can select a cheaper, a mid range or a luxury hotel where you can pay anywhere from $70 to over $700 a night. If the main goal of your holiday is to get rest and be pampered than the perfect accommodation for you will be in a luxury hotel. However if you are there for a fun holiday and for getting to see as much as possible from the region than you can find inexpensive accommodation and save some of that money to spend it sightseeing. The most visited places are the Dubai Creek, the Dubai museum, the Archaeological sites, the Dubai World Trade Center, the Grand Mosque, and the Hatta mountains. Just because Dubai is in the desert area with a sub-tropical climate, you should make sure you pack some warm clothing for the evenings when it can get quite chillier.

Dubai is one of the most interesting holiday spots because of the available activities and different ways of spending your time, because of the high contrast between the Old Dubai and the New Modern Dubai, the prices that are adjusted for all the budgets and the multitude of interesting places to see. For example Dubai is the home of the only seven-star hotel in the world, the Burj al-Arab hotel. Also in Dubai you can see and visit the tallest building in the world, the Burj Dubai and the Palm Islands which are the three biggest man-made islands in the world. Because of its on growing popularity and the insufficient accommodation, Dubai tends to become a holiday place for people with medium income who can afford to pay an average of $200 per night per room. Nonetheless the ever expanding area is still one of the top holiday places.

Karon Beach and Resorts – Right in front of your Fingertips!

November 23, 2009 by free1506

Trains, planes and automobiles or even boats
Depending on what kind of person you are, getting to Phuket can be achieved by any of the above. The veteran backpacker would use the coach perhaps, the high-end traveller the plane and the adventurer would surely use the boat. Well when I say adventurer, I mean it in the loose sense of the word.

By Boat
Arriving at Phuket by cruise ship is certainly an option if you are thinking about sailing the high seas. Ships arrive regularly from all over the world. The down-side is, these cruises are hugely expensive. A slightly cheaper alternative though, might be to travel to Phuket via the Malacca Straits or Singapore.

By Road
The island of Phuket is actually 885km south of the City of Angels, and is connected to the mainland by a 1200meter causeway. If you don’t mind a fourteen hour journey, then bus is the way for you, they run daily from the Southern Bus Terminal in Bangkok. The good thing about the bus is that it’s reasonably priced, comfortable and cold! Beach life awaits but with this trip comes a complimentary high power cold air-condition unit above your head, so bring warm clothes for this journey. Apart from the length of the journey, the bus could be compared to an airline. They have cabin attendants bringing drinks and snacks, there’s even an in-trip movie. The trip itself is an overnighter and you arrive at Phuket early the next morning.

By Rail
Another way of getting to Phuket overland from Bangkok is the direct train route that is available. Again, it’s an overnight journey but it can be somewhat more comfortable than the bus. Sleeping births allow you to get a good night’s sleep but before going, a welcome nightcap in the buffet car at the end of train won’t go amiss. The train leaves from Hua Lumphong Station in Bangkok and then on to Surat Thani where you need to take a bus to complete the rest of your journey. Be prepared to rise early on the day you arrive at Surat Thani, Thais get up very early on most days so don’t expect a lie in.

Flying by Air To Phuket, Karon

Finally planes. Easily the most comfortable and quickest way to get to the island. The international airport at Phuket receives flights from all over the world as well as domestic flights from other cities including Bangkok. If you are on a time budget or you just simply yearn comfort, then the plane is the way to go.

Arriving and leaving

Now that you have arrived, it’s time to shake off travel fatigue and hit those beautiful palm fringed beaches and golden or white sands that stretch for miles. Resort destinations like Karon offer the sight of tiny palm coves and bays that inundate the coastline. This is where some of the most gorgeous and luxurious hotel resorts blend in with the natural beauty of Thailand. Horizon Karon Beach Resort and Spa located at the southern end of the beach and just a stone’s throw away from the famed Kata beach boast excellent service and wonderful views. The resort itself is set on some 16000sqm of land surrounded by a rain forest of lush vegetation. It is slightly set back from the main drag and offers a haven of peace and tranquillity and yet not so far from Karon’s entertainment and shopping districts. A complimentary bus service to Patong beach is also available. Other activities you might find yourself interested in around the Karon beach area are the extensive choice of marine activities such as diving and snorkelling. Honeymooners who stay more than four nights at the resort can enjoy extra service at the Karon Beach Resort Hotels where they will receive complimentary honeymoon gifts on arrival. Why would anyone want to leave.

10 Good Reasons to Visit Spain

November 20, 2009 by free1506

UK and worldwide advertising by the Spanish National Tourist Office emphasises the multi-faceted nature of the country. Different regions all offer unique landscapes, lifestyles, cuisine and opportunities for exploration.

Spain is a country of sleepy villages where the siesta is still observed and wonderful meals are served not before 3pm for lunch and 9pm for dinner. This is traditional Spain – and you don’t have to travel far from popular resort areas to find it.

But of course, Spain is also the hustle and bustle of the big, modern cities – with international standard hotels, major art centres and museums. Sporting legacies from the Olympic Games of 1992 as well as the fanatically-followed football teams all add to the mix of non-stop attractions for city breaks or multi-centre visits. Of course, in Spain you will find some of the most dramatic landscapes and seascapes in Europe.

So: here are a set of Top 10 Tips which reflect the best of this fabulous country:

Beaches: From the cosy coves of the Costa Brava to the vast acres of golden sand on the island of Fuerteventura, there is a beach to suit you whether you like a busy resort or a strip of sand near a fishing village.

Nightlife: The Spanish like it long and late and you’re more than welcome to join in. Try a traditional flamenco show or the latest sounds on the disco island of Ibiza.

Food: Tapas bars have brought Spanish cuisine to many countries, and you will soon discover it is as varied and delicious as anywhere in Europe. Don’t forget rice-based paella, the Spanish national dish.

Wine: There are wine growing regions all over the country, the best-known being La Rioja in the north. Visit Jerez to see the home of sherry and check out the little known vintages of the Canaries.

Art: Spain has produced world-renowned painters ranging from classical Velazquez to surrealist Picasso. Madrid has some of the finest art museums in the world.

Cities: All the buzz and excitement of the country comes together in the capital, Madrid; and Barcelona, the seaside Olympic city. Also look at up-and-coming Seville, Valencia and Palma.

Nature: Spain is home to many national parks, such as the Picos de Europa in the north and Donana in the south. Tenerife has Spain’s highest peak, Mount Teide.

History: Did you know the Moorish Arabs ruled Spain for seven centuries, and that their legacy includes the fabulous Alhambra Palace in Granada? Palaces and castles abound.

Shopping: Big city stores such as El Corte Ingles rub shoulders with colourful traditional markets. The Canaries are a duty-free zone.

Touring: Hire a car or take your own, and discover the “Real Spain” along the back roads. Touring routes include the White Towns of Andalucia.

There you have it – 10 great reasons for a holiday in Spain – and 10 great reasons to go back for more.

Dry Skin Care Tips and Treatments

November 19, 2009 by free1506

Only a lucky few have ‘normal’ skin; the rest of us have a dry, oily or combination variety; if dryness is your problem, read on. Skin is not dry solely because it lacks oil, but because it lacks water. Xeroderma (dry skin) occurs most commonly on the lower legs, arms, the sides of the abdomen and thighs.

Skin also receives less blood flow and lower gland activity. Skin is our largest organ and is considered one of the most important parts of the body. Skin contains the hair follicles, sweat glands, sebaceous glands, apocrine glands and blood vessels.

The outermost layer of epidermis consists of 25 to 30 layers of dead cells. The dermis is structurally divided into two areas: a superficial area adjacent to the epidermis, called the papillary region, and a deep thicker area known as the reticular region. The dermis is tightly connected to the epidermis by a basement membrane.

Certain drugs, including diuretics, antispasmodics, and antihistamines, can contribute to dry skin. Environmental factors such as exposure to sun, wind, cold, chemicals, or cosmetics, or excessive bathing with harsh soaps, can cause dry skin. Forced-air furnaces make skin even drier. Serious skin complications, including dry skin, can arise for people with diabetes.

Natural treatment should always be the first type of treatment to consider when you want to take the best care of your skin. Use a humidifier if the air is dry. Drink plenty of water every day.

Consider taking cod liver oil or fish oil supplements every day. Drink freshly juiced carrot juice every day. Concentrating on a diet of plenty of fruits and vegetables (preferably raw: uncooked) and no junk food, should give you an observable improvement within 30 days.

The two most common digestive problems that affect your skin are not enough water and not enough fiber. Eat high-fiber snacks like raw nuts, raw seeds, and dried fruit, such as dates, and figs.

It just takes motivation, a willingness to try it, and diligent application of coconut oil several times a day and at bedtime to see its benefits. Use bath oils and moisturizers, especially coconut oil, at least once daily. Also use a thin layer of coconut oil under your make-up to moisturize your skin all day. Use coconut oil to remove your make-up at night, like I do; it leaves a fine layer of oil to nourish your skin all night long.

The skin is subject to constant attack from without, so can be affected by numerous conditions, diseases and ailments. The skin supports its own ecosystems of microorganisms, including yeasts and bacteria, which cannot be removed by any amount of cleaning. Dry skin can be converted into healthy skin using natural home remedies.

If nothing seems to work it might be more than just dry skin, so you should see the doctor. Make sure to call your naturopath or dermatologist when you have any open cuts or sores from scratching that won’t heal. Skin doctors are called dermatologists.

Biting Nails And How To Stop Today

November 19, 2009 by free1506

It is generally seen that nail biting is the result of stress, worries and boredom. There are many who unconsciously start biting nails. And nail biting is perhaps one of the most common habits present in this world. As much as forty four percent of adolescents are habituated of biting their nails. About 30% of the children between 7 and 10 and about 25% of the young adults are habituated of biting nails.

It is generally seen that males are more prone to nail biting than females. And to make it soft for people engaged in biting nails, it is found out that people with higher intelligence levels are more prone to biting. It might be because of higher level of stress and higher level of responsibility that is associated with higher intelligence.

When it comes to stop biting nails, it is easier said than done. It requires a lot of effort to break this habit. It would take time and patience to stop nail biting. Let us have a look at some of the suggestions that might help you biting your nails.

Have emery board or have nail clippers wherever you go.

You can go for nail creams that taste very bitter and help stop nail biting.

It is also better to wear gloves and bandages to stop biting nails.

You can have a rubber band attached to your wrist to let you remind that you have to stop biting.

Your family members and friends should always remind you whenever they see your fingers in your mouth.

Many feel that biting your nails is perhaps the most innocuous amongst the so called bad habits. Most of the children and even adults have the habit of nail biting but biting should never be taken lightly. It has grave results.

Have you ever thought what the function of your nails is? Well, it has to protect your fingertips. It helps you to pick up small things and yes, how can we forget its function to relive itching. Now think about the situation when you do not have those nails to help you out.

What is more, when you bite your nails you are actually breaking your skin and that becomes an entry point for germs. If you have seen any compulsive nail biting person you would find that they engage in so much so that they actually bleed the finger nails. And that is a sure shot way of getting infections.

Any expert would tell you that germs reside under your fingernails and biting nails results in the transfer of those germs from your nails to your mouth. And if that is not enough, try to visualize all the things you touched all through the day and now think about all those getting an entry into the mouth. Yes, I am talking about your smelly socks, slimy creatures for your lab work and what not?

You can use special nail polish that tastes very awful and that would help you stop nail biting. It tastes so bitter that you won’t put your fingers again in your mouth.

Eat Away Oily Skin

November 17, 2009 by free1506

There are many people out there who have oily skin. Oily skin can be a nuisance and it can also be embarrassing when its results become translated through acne and increased shine. Interestingly, there are things that you can change that go into your mouth that will effect what comes out through your skin. When most people hear the word diet, they draw back, but just think of the possibilities when you tweak your diet and it helps your entire aesthetic appeal.

We have all heard the myths throughout the years, things like do not eat chocolate and soda will cause acne. Then reports came out that said that junk food did not in fact cause you to have acne. However, junk food does cause you to have more oil in your skin. If you have oilier skin, you will be more susceptible to clogged pores, and clogged pores will produce acne. Therefore, try to limit your unhealthy snack choices such as chips, candy bars, and cola beverages.

There are some other things that you can try to decrease your oil levels in your skin. Try to make a food journal before you try to alter your eating habits. Take a moment and be truthful and write down everything that you eat for one week. After the week is done, go back and see how many fried and processed foods you have been eating. You may be surprised at how many times you heated up a frozen dinner, cut out vegetables entirely, and reach for the flavored drink instead of the water.

After you can see all of your good choices as well as your bad in black and white, try to take a couple weeks and eat healthier. You will be surprised at what the toxins in bad food do to your face. You should also never forget to stay as hydrated as possible, regardless of your skin type, but it will help to decrease the oil in your pores. When you drink a large amount of water throughout the day think of it as a detoxification technique. Water has the ability to literally flush out your system and clean your pores from the inside out.

Your diet should be plentiful when it comes to proteins and you should try to cut out as much sugar, fluids from food, and salt that you can. Fruits and leafy vegetables are very abundant in water, so if you can eat more of these, you can make up for any lost hydration during the day. If you are not taking a multivitamin, and you have oily skin, now is the time to start. The more balanced your body is with the right minerals and vitamins, the more clear your skin will become.

Vitamin B2s are important in maintaining the skin and they can be found in foods such as organ meats, beans, yeasts, jelly, grain, nuts, and wheat germ. Oils are not only found in the skin, but they are in plenty of foods, so you should avoid adding any unnecessary excess. If you stay away from things like fatty foods, processed foods, and pork, you can cut down on your oil. If you are cooking with a recipe that calls for oil, try using something lighter like olive oil.

Also, there is no need to lower your immune system when you have oily skin. Avoid alcohol as much as you can. When you drink, your immune system lowers and it is harder to fight off the dirt and bacteria that is getting trapped into your face by the extra oils.

Oily skin is not going to be completely fixed by what you do or do not eat. However, there is nothing that can be harmful about making healthier choices when it comes to your diet. If you can do everything that you can to make your skin clear why would you not want to? Make all of the right choices when it comes to your skin and your diet, and watch your self esteem rise while your face becomes more clear.
